Thoughts of my Dad

I am updating for a second time today because I am currently watching What About Bob.

That movie was probaby my dad’s favorite movie of all time. He never would watch a movie more than once unless alot of time had passed since he last saw it. He collected John Wayne movies but really only watch the tape once.

We had a satellite dish since out in the country in Morris they didn’t have cable at the time. That means like those with digital cable now will know, movies channels have an east and west which means a movie comes on 3 hours later on the west channel. My dad would watch What About Bob on the east channel and then on the west channel every time he saw it was on. He must have watched it at least 100 times and laughed just as hard each time he would watch it. The only thing that ever made him laugh as much was All in the Family.

This leads me into a song that is now playing on the radio alot called “The Baby” that makes me cry just about every time I hear it. It is about a guy getting called home because his mom is about to die and wants to see her baby again. He doesn’t make it home in time. It reminds me of my trip home when I had to drop out of the semester at UK and race home to be with my dad. Thank God, I made it back in time as he passed away 6 hours after I got home. In a way it also reminds me of my grandpa as I got called home on my birthday a couple of years ago and 2 days later he passed away. That was a very bad time for IWA as Brent lost his dad while I was still home and then a couple of weeks later, Harry Palmer lost his baby.

In a very sappy note to end this thing to anyone who happens to be reading, enjoy every minute that you have with your loved ones because you never know when it will end.

In order to end this update on an upbeat note, let me say that nothing is more enjoyable than receiving a letter from the government telling you that you are gong to get back even more money than you thought on your tax refund check. I have that to thank for getting my Cubs jerseys and I believe that Shaina and I are going to go to Nashville this weekend to stay at the Union Station hotel. It is completely booked for Saturday night but has openings for Sunday. I don’t know how to link to it but I will say that it looks like an English castle and is in downtown Nashville.

Good Day.
