I’ve been watching the family backyard feeder cam now since August of 2023 last year. Since this feeder is not the only source of food in the neighborhood, nor in the backyard itself, it’s been mostly single birds one at a time when it’s warm or flocks of birds when it’s colder. Since I am not an experienced birder, for me at least, it’s not easy to tell how a bird is feeling, other than mostly calm, when they are by themselves and just eating. When these birds have been in flocks, they have been barely tolerating each other and verge on fighting with each other periodically. Cardinals have been a mainstay at the feeder so there wasn’t any reason to put these pictures on ebird. This couple of northern cardinals appeared together on the cam last week. These birds seem to be mates, since they were feeding each other birdseed on two different occasions. It was rather adorable to witness. (I hope it was an adorable action between the two of them anyway, it seemed to be affectionate).
