I purchased the Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen, 2018 release) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Charcoal from Amazon and it was delivered in a timely fashion. I purchased this Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen, 2018 release) – Smart speaker 6 years ago (Purchase: Jul, 2020) and and am very happy with it. It was the speaker that started my adventure with Alexa. I got it because I had signed up for Sirius Radio and they were running a promo giving away a free Echo speaker with subscription. I thought to myself, why not. I had no issues with the speaker itself. It’s lightweight and very portable. It’s small and fits a lot of different places. I like the light effects when it’s on. It puts out decent sound when music is played. It would be a great little speaker if there was simple Bluetooth capability with it. My problem has always been the Alexa software. I am amazed at the amount of smart objects that can be hooked up to Alexa and automated. However, the automation tasks are often clunkier than I would like. Sometimes Alexa doesn’t recognize the commands. I also don’t like that Alexa sometimes turns on for no reason by itself. The main purpose that I wanted Alexa for was for music. But there isn’t a way to connect Alexa to a mp3 personal catalog and half the time getting Alexa to play a certain song or album off of a music service like Sirius or Apple was much more hassle than it was worth. I wouldn’t purchase any more Alexa speakers again because I’m a little done for now with voice activation but my family still likes Alexa speakers. amazon listing.
