One of my favorite storylines during my 12 year wrestling career was in 2005. The Fannin Family were feuding with Ed Chuman’s NWA group and Ian Rotten over control of the company. It was leading up to a 3 way dance War Games…winner takes control of the company. As we were picking teams and ramping up to the cage match, I decided to try to woo Ian Rotten’s trainee and right hand…Mickie Knuckles. Everyone by now should know of my love for redheads and my love of managing wrestlers that win titles. Mickie was aces in both categories. Ring announcer (now a damn fine manager) Joey Eastman offered to help me win over Mickie Knuckles and said all it would take was breaking out the Carlton Dance. I could do that. I watched The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I was a huge fan of Tom Jones. This was going to be easy. So at the Blood Is Thicker Than Water even in Highland, Indiana on March 19, 2005, I decided to go for it. I came to the ring with flowers and a box of chocolates and a Mickie For The Gold t-shirt. I then busted a move and the result was this:
Luck was not on my side that night however. Mickie came to the ring and let me know that there was no chance in hell of a romantic relationship let alone managing her. I am nothing if not persistent though and I wouldn’t take no for an answer. This is what that got me:
During this promo, it was discovered that I had opened the box of chocolates and eaten some of them before I gave them to Mickie. She shoved the box of candy in my face after the slap and thanks to the five second rule…Joey Eastman and myself were able to save the candy.
This was not the end of the Wooing of Mickie Knuckles by a long shot. I’ll be continuing this story as I get more footage from the shows.
Here is the promo in its entirety if you care to watch it:
