#1 – The Second Spitter
Kramer and Newman recount their tale of going to a Mets game on June 14, 1987 vs. the Phillies. A crucial Keith Hernandez error leads to a 5 run 9th inning and lets the Phillies win the game. After saying “Nice game, pretty boy” to Hernandez as they passed him after the game, they get spit on…presumably by Hernandez. Seinfeld, spoofing the JFK assassination, proceeds to offer a conspiracy theory of a second spitter on the gravely road. What ensues is pure comedic genius.
#2 – Was it really Joe DiMaggio at the donut shop? Is he a dunker?
Kramer says he saw “The Yankee Clipper” Joe DiMaggio at the donut shop eating a donut. He claimed that DiMaggio was a dunker. Jerry says there is no way that DiMaggio is a dunker and Kramer says that not even slapping the table and yelling wild noises could break his concentration from the donut…just like when he hit a baseball. The whole gang then sees DiMaggio dunking donuts at the café to end the episode.
#3 – George sabotages the Yankees by changing uniforms to cotton
George has a talk with Danny Tartabull and finds out that the Yankees have been using polyester uniforms. George has a talk with manager Buck Showalter and convinces him to change to a cotton uniform because “it breathes.” The Yankees love it the first night…right up until the uniforms are washed and dried and then become way too tight due to shrinkage.
#4 – Elaine refuses to take off her Orioles hat at the Yankees game
Elaine, George and Kramer are sitting in Mr. Steinbrenner’s box seats at a Yankees vs. Orioles game. Baltimore native Elaine is donning an Orioles hat and is asked to take it off. She refuses and gets kicked out. Kramer then gets clunked in the head by a foul ball.
#5 – Jimmy
George meets Jimmy at the gym and loves his workout shoes. Hilarity ensues as Jimmy talks in the third person and confuses Elaine. Kramer gets mistaken for a mentally challenged adult because of a trip to the dentist and his drool injures Jimmy. Everyone starts talking in the third person. It veers away from sports pretty quickly but still one of my favorites Seinfeld episodes.
