Whooooooooooo!!! Tonight I crossed one off my list

I have been a Ric Flair mark ever since 1985.  I can remember gathering around the tv set and watching Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS with my mom and dad.  At first I loved Tommy Rich.  Then after Tommy Rich left in 1983ish, I didn’t really have a favorite.  Something happened though when I got to be 9 years old and the Flair character just spoke to me.  I wanted to be the dirtiest player in the game.  I wanted to be a limo riding, jet flying, kiss stealing, wheeling, dealing, son of a gun.  I wanted to drive the most expensive cars and wear the most expensive suits and mostly, I wanted to have 5 or 6 women on each arm to polish off the image of being THE MAN.

In my 11 years in wrestling, I’ve gotten to meet several of my favorites while growing up.  I’ve gotten to meet Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Abdullah the Butcher, Tommy Rich.  I’ve gotten to meet women in the business that I had crushes on: Sherri Martel, Sunny, Francine.  I’ve gotten to meet contemporaries that turned into superstars: CM Punk, Matt Sydal, Samoa Joe, Necro Butcher, Mickie Knuckles, Colt Cabana, Trevor Murdock, Shark Boy and so many others.  I’ve gotten to befriend people that I consider legends that others may classify differently: Ian Rotten, Tracy Smothers, Chris Candido, Axl Rotten, Bull Pain and others.  But I had never gotten to meet the man at the top of the list…Ric Flair.  Until tonight.

I would like to thank PL Myers for his hospitality and kindness tonight.  He treated me like a VIP and took real good care of me.  I can honestly say that I have never been treated better at any other show that I went to in all my years of traveling with Ian.  Not at MAW.  Not at PWU.  Not at CZW.  Not anywhere.

I was so glad that Ric Flair was polite and in good spirits tonight.  I would have been devastated if he was an ass as some have been.  I intentionally left one of my heroes when I was growing up off my list of mentions earlier in the blog due to his shitty attitude when he came in to IWA…and it wasn’t Raven because I never was impressed with that schmuck.

Here is the photo taken with Flair:

That one is a prized possession.  I also got a 16 x 20 picture of him and Arn with the World Title and TV Title respectively signed.  I had him personalize it to "J.J." since that was what Candido always called me so he could be Flair back in the Fannin Family days.  Tammy thought Chris was actually being managed by JJ Dillon because every time he’d call her from the road when we were traveling to a show, he’d tell her that he was riding with JJ.  Flair added "You The Man" to the picture as well for me when I told him that story.

So here it is 2 am and I’m still amped up from it.

I’m calling it a night because tomorrow I meet Lou Piniella but that won’t be as great as this…it would be impossible!

Good Day.
