Today is off to a decent start. I woke up and put some of my favorite Sinatra songs on my CDs onto a tape so I could take it with me to the gym so I could listen to it on my walkman while I was on the treadmill. I have to say that I have 4 songs from Sinatra that are all bunched together as to what is my absolute favorite. I guess it would just depend on my mood. “My Way” of course is my big finale and so it will probably spend more time on the top of my list than the others but “Three Coins In The Fountain” is awesome as is “It Was A Very Good Year” but one that really stood out today was “That’s Life.” Here is the opening to the song:
That’s life, that’s what all the people say.
You’re riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune,
When I’m back on top, back on top in June.
I said that’s life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin’ on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down,
‘Cause this fine ol’ world it keeps spinning around
I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.
Yep…leave it to Ol’ Blue Eyes to bring optimism into the world with his songs. That truly is life. It has its ups and downs and sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. You just have to go with the punches and keep getting back up when you get knocked down. I’ve become an expert at that. I still have some fight left in me and whether it results in me falling flat on my face or whether it puts me back on top in June, I will be able to live with the results. It would be much better though to be on top in June than to fall flat on my face again.
I was able to put in a good 45 minutes on the treadmill while listening to my Sinatra and I got in some good lifting as well. I can start to see a difference at times when I look into a mirror. I feel better and I have more energy. I even went to 2% milk on my cereal! I never thought I would see that day but yet here it is.
I have to go and buy the tub and the faucet and that shit today because the guy that is going to fix the bathroom can’t get the stuff before it goes off of sale. I need to finish mowing the back yard. I mowed the front…raked and bagged the clippings and watered the areas that I seeded and watered the flowers last night. I guess I’m turning into my neighbor who spends all damn day outside working in the yard. It can be relaxing however or at least it was last night.
I’ll watch the Cubs today and see if they turned a corner with the come from behind win yesterday and the brawl on Saturday. A guy can dream can’t he? I even wore my Derrek Lee shirt today.
Off to get some work done.
