Who says I am a stick in the mud 100% of the time?

Today just might be one of the record books. Universes are colliding right now and the apocolypse may just be on the horizon. Mr. Conservative sang 3 songs at karoake tonight at the VFW. It is a major enough accomplishment getting me into a bar. Getting me to sing in front of people that I don’t know, unheard of. Tonight I broke down a barrier. It isn’t as big as the invention of the wheel or fire but by God it is huge in the world of Fannin. Ian Rotten couldn’t believe his ears when I called and told him. He has seen me in bars after the wrestling shows and you’d think that I was in a prisoner of war camp the way I would act. Now comes news of Jim Fannin, in a bar, singing and having fun. Who’d a thunkit?

The first song that I sung was Frank Sinatra’s “Summer Wind”. I picked it because it was under 3 minutes long. Get in and get out. Just get the feet wet a little bit. The last time I sang in public, Mickie kicked my head off my shoulders. She wasn’t there and it didn’t look like there was anyone there that could take me so I wasn’t worried about that. I did fairly well on it.

I made a mistake with my second selection. My Aunt Faye was talking to me about wrestling and if I thought I would miss it etc. It got the Rascal Flatt’s song “I’m Moving On” playing in my head. I picked that as my second song. I didn’t butcher it but my voice doesn’t quite match their high pitch so it wasn’t as good as my Sinatra.

I brought the house down with my version of Sinatra’s “My Way” to close out the night. I think there was one girl after me and that was it. I was holding my plastic cup of Diet Coke and swinging it around and taking sips just like Sinatra would do with his glass of alcohol while he sang.

I wanted to also do “Strangers in the Night” by Sinatra and “What’s New Pussycat” by Tom Jones but since I sat around for the first two hours trying to decide if I was going to actually sing or not, I didn’t have enough time to do those. I will get them at some point though.

I watched the first 4 episodes of season 4 of Dallas this morning. I got through the episode where they reveal who shot JR. JR had some good quotes in today’s episodes…”Nobody beats old JR” and “You’ll get what’s coming to you…I’ll see to that myself.”

I bought some tickets for Gretchen Wilson in Lexington on Thursday February 23rd. That should be a fun time. A fun time indeed.
