Checklist link: Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)
There was a new bird at the backyard feeder today. I am not totally positive, but I think it most closely resembles a common grackle. Well, the merlin software, after enough pictures were taken, deduced that the common grackle was the kind the bird most resembled. The ebird website states that the common grackle is near threatened, so I wouldn’t mind if he or she stayed at the feeder a bit. The fear at first was that it was a cowbird, however, the coloring wasn’t quite right for it. The merlin software tried to tell me this bird was at first, with fewer pictures, a brewer’s blackbird, but once again the coloring isn’t quite the same nor is the beak or stature of the bird quite matching.
