The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history. The Steelers have won 6 Super Bowl titles and lost in the Super Bowl twice. No franchise has won more Super Bowls and no franchise has been in more Super Bowls (tied with Dallas Cowboys at 8.) Since 1969, Pittsburgh has only had three head coaches: Chuck Noll (4 Super Bowl Titles), Bill Cowher (1 Super Bowl Title) and current coach Mike Tomlin (1 Super Bowl Title.) When people think of the Steelers, they think Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Franco Harris, Jerome Bettis, Ben Rothlisberger, Hines Ward, Mean Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert. They think tough as nails, consistently good football team. That is why what current head coach Mike Tomlin did last night vs. the Ravens that much more despicable.
Due to the recent dominance of the Green Bay Packers over the Chicago Bears, the Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry has gained in popularity and the go to game when people talk about NFL rivalries. Both the Steelers and Ravens have recent Super Bowl victories and their games are usually very important in the division title and AFC playoff races. The importance of the game and the heat involved in the rivalry do not excuse Mike Tomlin’s actions on Thanksgiving night though when he cheated on a kickoff play and INTENTIONALLY got into the way of the Ravens kickoff returner especially since this is a down year for teams! I cannot believe that the referees did not throw a flag on the play but I fully expect the NFL to levy a very large fine if not suspension in for no other reason than how happy Tomlin was with himself after the play:
