This must be the week for coach’s to cheat. ICYMI from earlier today, Mike Tomlin cheated during the Steelers vs. Ravens game last night with the whole world watching as he stood in the field of play with his back turned and got in the way of the Ravens kick returner stopping a potential TD. The Ravens still won despite the cheating but that isn’t the point. It appears that Mike Tomlin was not alone in the head coaches cheating category this week nor was football the lone sport. It found its way into the NBA as well.
Jason Kidd is a highly respected former point guard that took the New Jersey Nets to two NBA Finals during his playing days. He is second on the all time list for career assists in the NBA. While he has had his troubles off the court in his personal life (arrested for domestic abuse and DUI), on the court, he is very respected and thought highly of among the NBA circles. He is currently in his first season as the Brooklyn Nets head coach. Brooklyn traded to bring in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from the Celtics to team with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson to make a run to compete against Lebron and the Miami Heat. It is not working out at all. The Nets find themselves currently 4-11 in the record book. Kevin Garnett is only playing 23 minutes a game (not even half a game) and only averaging 6.7 PPG. Deron Williams has only played in 9 games and is not putting up big numbers. The Big 4 are old in NBA terms. Garnett is 37. Pierce is 36. Johnson is 32. Williams is 29 and he may be the unhealthiest of the four!
The low point came on Wednesday night in a game against the Lakers. In the final seconds of the game, Jodie Meeks was on the FT line for the Lakers as LA had the lead and the Nets had no more timeouts. What happened next belonged in a Harlem Globetrotters game as a comedy bit…not in the NBA. Jason Kidd was ON THE COURT holding a cup of Diet Coke in his hand. He told his player “HIT ME” and his player bumped in to him. Jason Kidd then went into a big theatrical move where he spilled the Diet Coke and ice in the cup all over the floor. The referees called for an official timeout to clean the floor. This gave the Nets a chance to draw up a last play to try to force OT or win the game even though they had no timeouts remaining. The bush league comedy didn’t end there however. Two Lakers players JOINED the Nets in their huddle and watched the play get drawn up while no one noticed that the other team was spying on them! I don’t even think the Washington Generals would agree to looking that stupid! Here is the proof of this ridiculous exchange that made a mockery out of the game:
Jason Kidd’s cheating was all for naught as the Globetrotters, I mean Brooklyn Nets still lost the game anyway.
