I am disgusted by the fanfare that MLB and the Rockies are giving Todd Helton on his farewell tour.  Longevity doesn’t mean you are great.  Overstaying your welcome doesn’t make you great.  Putting up some gaudy numbers playing the majority of your games basically on the moon doesn’t make you great.  If Larry Walker (who had success outside of just Colorado) is only getting 21% and dropping after 3 years on the HOF ballot, then Todd Helton will NEVER see the light of day in the HOF.  He doesn’t even have 400 HRs in his career and he only had 2 outstanding seasons.  He never finished higher than 5th in the MVP voting.  He was never the best at his position for an extended period of time.  He’s just another overrated guy and more importantly just another dumbass professional athlete worth millions that can’t avoid getting DUIs.

Welcome to the 21st century where things such as taxis, limos, car services and designated driver programs are in existence in order to keep people from driving drunk.  Perhaps someone should let Todd Helton know.  I can semi-understand a regular joe schmoe getting a DUI because not everyone can afford a taxi or a limo BUT an athlete never has that excuse.  Athletes know that their every move is being watched and that an arrest will result in getting that plastered on a million websites, newspapers and tv stations.  If an athlete is going to go out drinking, they should have an ounce of brains and already have a plan in place for leaving the club, bar, etc.

But kudos to the Colorado Rockies on their retirement gift to Todd Helton:
