Pro Football HOF rant

Not just because I’m a Bears fan, but I don’t get this Dave Robinson selection to the HOF.  I never saw him play since he retired 2 years before I was even born.  I’ve never even heard of him.  He’s definitely not mentioned with LT, Butkus, Singletary, Nitchske, Ray Lewis, Urlacher etc when people mention great LBers or else I would have heard his name before.  He’s been retired for 40 years and he is just NOW making it into the HOF?  What changed this year?  In 12 years, he made 3 Pro Bowls.  I had to Google to see what year the NFL started the Pro Bowl to see if maybe he only made the Pro Bowl 3 times because they didn’t do it most of his career.  It started in 1950.  So he had 12 chances to make the Pro Bowl and did so 3 times.  That SCREAMS hall of fame to me baby.  Hell, no one outside of a bunch of cheeseheads would even argue the statement that ‘Dave Robinson of the Packers isn’t even the most famous athlete named Dave Robinson.”  When I first heard today that Dave Robinson was inducted into the HOF, my first thought was that I didn’t realize the NBA HOF ceremony was today.

Again, this is not just because I am a Bears fan.  If 30 years from now, Hunter Hillenmeyer makes it into the HOF, I will complain and question it just the same.

The two times I went to Canton to the Pro Football HOF, I couldn’t get over how many people they induct.  When was the last time you saw 7 people go into Cooperstown together?  The baseball HOF is something that I can see it taking forever to get into because those damn sportswriters don’t vote for anybody.  Hell, some of them didn’t vote for Babe freaking Ruth to be a HOFer.  It is not a Hall of FAME when you let everyone in.  It isn’t even a Hall of Great at that point…it’s just a Hall of Very Good.
