The University of Louisville and the fans of their sports team may want to put the year 2013 in a time capsule in an effort to remember it always. No school has ever had a year like the Louisville Cardinals athletic program has had so far this year.
The 2012-3 Louisville Cardinals football team started the run by winning the Big East Championship and earning the league’s bid to a BCS bowl. On January 2, 2013, the Cardinals went to New Orleans and destroyed the Florida Gators. The 33-23 final score does not show how dominant U of L was in that game. Star QB Teddy Bridgewater was 20-32 for 266 yards and 2 TDs in the game. He’s also coming back so Louisville will still be a team to watch in football for the upcoming 2013-14 season. There could be another scene like this one at the end of the season for the Cardinals football team…maybe even in a more important game than the Sugar Bowl:

The athletic program did not stop there. They continued to dominate in basketball…both men’s and women’s. Both squads made it to the championship game. The men won. The women lost but still it is very rare for the same school to have a team in both title teams…maybe only UConn is the other school to pull that feat unless Duke or UNC has. I don’t care enough about women’s basketball to look it up but it is still impressive. Russ Smith decided to return and with Rick Pitino as coach, U of L could definitely return to the Final Four again next season. It will be hard to repeat this scene but anything is possible:

Now it is the baseball teams turn to continue this unbelievable run. After defeating Vanderbilt University the other day, they qualified for the College World Series. It is the first time that a school has ever had the football team go to a BCS bowl game, both the men and women’s basketball teams making the Final Four and the baseball team making the College World Series in the same year. It doesn’t matter if the baseball team makes it to the title game or not, this has been a year to remember for Cardinals fans.
So kudos to my friends from Louisville area that are big fans. Bask in it while you can. Because you are still number 2 in your own state 😉 Go Big Blue!
