Orioles’ victory celebration

Baltimore Orioles v Washington Nationals

I just love this photo by Patrick McDermott of Getty Images capturing the Orioles outfielders (Adam Jones, Nick Markakis and Chris Dickerson) celebrating their 6-2 victory over the natural rivals: the Washington Nationals.

It was a horrible day for Nationals’ SP Gio Gonzalez (5.2 IP, 4 ER, 4 BB, 8 H, 3K).  He’s got to have Nationals fans wondering if last year’s 21-8 and Cy Young runner up was a fluke with the struggles he’s having this season.  Jason Hammel raised his record to 7-2 for Baltimore while LOWERING his ERA under 5 to 4.98.  You are not going to find too many SPs with an ERA of 4.98 that have a record of 7-2!  Matt Wieters, Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Yamaico Navarro and Nick Markakis all had 2 hits a piece while Manny Machado went 3 for 5 with his 23rd double and a walk to raise his average to .335.

The Nationals definitely missed the bat of Bryce Harper, as he might miss the entire series due to bursitis in his knee.  Combined with the loss of Jayson Werth, it caused Washington to start two OFs hitting under .150!
