Oakland A’s pitcher, Brandon McCarthy, was nailed in the head by a line drive hit by Angels SS, Erik Aybar.  Of course, McCarthy had to leave the game but never lost consciousness.  Hopefully he will be able to return to the rotation soon with no serious repercussions.  This is a serious risk that every pitcher faces with each ball thrown.  It is becoming an incident that is happening more frequently it seems.  Perhaps pitchers need to start wearing helmets while pitching  sort of like how John Olerud always wore a helmet in the field at first base.
