Morris Redskin football has just been dealt a stomach punch. I don’t know if they will be able to recover from it.
Coach Dan Darlington is no longer the coach at Morris. Yesterday he held a press conference to introduce himself as the new coach at Plainfield North, a new school that will open next year. Darlington had been the football coach at Morris High School since 1976, my entire life. 2 State Championships. 5 State Runner-ups. 2 State Semifinals. 22 conference titles: the only years since 1983 that we didn’t win or tie for conference is 1986 and 2000.
If you remember my tirades from November, you will remember that I was not very fond of my cousin that is the superintendent at the high school. Well now that he has gotten his way and has run off a legend, I can’t even put into words my disdain for that man. If it weren’t for my love of my dad and grandpa, I might consider changing my last name just so people wouldn’t know that I was related to that miserable .
Right now, I don’t think I’ll follow Morris football as closely next year. It just won’t feel the same.
Definitely not a Good Day.
