I am going to start off this update with a tribute to my dad. He passed away 9 years ago today. One of the main reasons that I still enjoy being a part of wrestling even though I don’t watch it on television anymore is the fact that I know my dad is looking down with a smile on his face. Since he was in a wheelchair from the time that I was three years old, watching wrestling on television was one of the few things we had to do together. I know that he is looking down and telling me to “hit him in the knee with a hammer” as that was his advice to every wrestler during a match that we would watch together. I didn’t think he would be able to make it as long as he did since the doctors told him his entire life that he would never live to be older than 20. He was a hemophiliac and doctors didn’t think they could prolong his life very long with the little they knew about treating it. After my mom died in December of 1992, I didn’t think my dad would last very long but he hung on for three more years. I love you and miss you dad. I’d go out to the cemetary today but it is cold and snowy so I don’t know if I’ll make it or not.
This past weekend was Valpo and Bloomington. Poor turnouts both nights. The turnout for Valpo was a disappointment since we had 99 people last time and I spent $225 on ads in the newspaper for the show this time. I guess ROH being in town the following day cost us quite a few fans. The damn IWA Totem Pole was stripped down this weekend and I had to once again return to the ring crew to help set everything up for the shows. It was good exercise and could come in handy if I decide to enter War Games. The Valpo show was fun though and had several good matchups on it. Chandler pissed me off by losing in the opener so I told him to get the hell out of my sight and leave the building. I had a blast doing commentary the rest of the night with Joey Eastman. Some great comedy if I do say so everyone pick up the tape if for nothing else but to listen to the commentary. Bloomington I had to pull triple duty at since there was no Joey and no Prazak. Ring announce, manage and commentate. It was fun doing the commentary for the last two matches with Mickie Knuckles. I’m sure Jim Lot will hate it. It wasn’t as enjoyable doing the commentary with Chandler during the first part of the show. He really needs to learn how to cheat better if he wants into the Family.
Speaking of the Fannin Family, I have decided against getting tshirts made. I really can’t come up with a good design for the front of the tshirt. I know what I wanted on the back but just couldn’t decide on a front design. Oh well, I probably would have only sold about 5 anyway.
It was quite an experience driving home from Louisville last night. The roads were slick and I saw several cars in the ditch due to the snow and ice. My car slid once when I had to try to stop really fast since everyone in front me had to gawk at a car in the ditch that had flipped over. It brought back many bad memories of the accident that damn near killed Ian, BFE and me in similar road conditions. Luckily, I didn’t have any other troubles the rest of the trip.
There really isn’t anything else to go into about the past weekend.
Good Day.
